Check into The Rubens, a five-star hotel near Buckingham Palace for two nights with a dinner, breakfasts, and afternoon tea included

The Rubens takes its illustrious London address seriously, mirroring all the grandeur you'd expect from a hotel that overlooks Buckingham Palace. From the smartly-dressed doormen who doff their hats to guests to the opulent furnishings in the lobby, this place is every inch the traditional five-star hotel.

Your two-night stay includes a three-course dinner in the English Grill - where theatrical dishes are prepared in an open kitchen by a team of expert chefs - and afternoon tea in The Palace Lounge. The lounge overlooks the Royal Mews, a lovely spot for people-watching as you indulge in scones, cakes, pastries, mini sandwiches, and cups of tea served in fine china.

On both mornings, a Full English breakfast is served, the perfect way to start a busy day in London. You're just a short stroll from many London landmarks, including the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and the London Eye.

Style & Character

The hotel suits international visitors after an all-round British experience, steps away from Buckingham Palace. We loved the 350 square-metre verdant Living Wall that carpets the side of the building. It's made up of 10,000 herbaceous plants.

Service & Facilities

Staff have clearly worked here for years - and you can tell they really enjoy it. There's a buzzing, convivial feel among staff that instantly puts you in a relaxed mood. Pooches are welcome, with bowls, beds and biscuits supplied.

Rooms

The Royal Themed King Rooms are among the most attractive, with crystal chandeliers and king-sized beds with canopies. Rooms are fully soundproofed, minimising the whirring and humming of cars zipping down busy Buckingham Palace Road.

Food & Drink

The hotel's fine dining restaurant is The English Grill, with its teal blue velvet chairs and comfy brown leather banquettes. We liked the Orkney king scallops, served with English chorizo and a creamy applewood smoked cheese hollandaise.

The English Grill: opulent fine dining, English produce. 2 AA Rosettes restaurant. Open daily for breakfast and dinner.
The Curry Room: intimate restaurant, Indian cuisine. Open Thu-Mon for dinner. 3-course meal from £75.
